Scary to some, thrilling to others, AI and talks about singularity has been around.
My first encounter was in 1988... it happened in a C64 game, based on a 1984 novel from William Gibson, called Neuromancer. I can still hear the opening theme resonating in my head... a digitized audio anthem that kept looping.
It became clear to me on that day that I had strong affinity with "the machine".
